Solved: Can't Find Chromecast on My Google Home App

A few seconds from now, the orange blinking light will turn into a flashing white light. The factory reset process has started now and you can take your finger off the button. You have to press and hold down the button on the side of the Chromecast device.

But if they are placed farther and it’s not possible to relocate them then a 2.4 GHz channel is a more appropriate option for you. The objects placed between your router and the Chromecast device can cause interference. Hence, you should try to remove all the objects that can block Wi-Fi signals if possible. Check the Wi-Fi network you are currently connected. We recommend you wait for at least 30 seconds to make sure that the device is turned off completely. After plugging in the Chromecast to the power source, it will reboot and update automatically.

What is Chromecast?

Then, plug another end of the Chromecast device to the HDMI port of your TV. First, plug one end of the power cable to the Chromecast device and another to the power source. Firstly, connect the Chromecast device to the TV. Since there is no physical button for on/off on the device itself, you can unplug its charger from the power source to turn it off.

Check it for system updates and install them if available. If you’re not sure what Wi-Fi network your smartphone is connected to, here’s how to check it. On your smartphone, go to your Wi-Fi settings and choose the ChromecastXXXX network. (The XXXX will be a different series of letters and numbers for each device.) We used an iPhone, but it works similarly on Android devices.

If any of these steps helped you solve your problem, awesome! If they didn’t, then troubleshooting isn’t your problem. The Troubleshooting list involves 3 steps, and they work on both Chromecast and Google Home.

If it’s still not visible to your smartphone, keep changing the channel until you find one that doesn’t have as much interference. Finally, if none of the previous steps worked, the only thing we can recommend is resetting your Chromecast to factory settings. Since, in this case, you can’t use the Google Home app to reset Chromecast, you can try with the on-device physical reset option.

Step 1. Check your internet connection

The last step on the list is for iPhone and iPad users only. Turn on the Bluetooth function. If this didn’t solve your problem, follow the next step. Now that you’re familiar with the purpose of Chromecast, let’s talk about its functions.

If there’s one thing that’s most frequently related to Google Home issues with smart devices, it must be the network. Especially if you have a lot of connected devices and use a subpar router to keep them all on the grid. When I set mine up I had to change my router WiFi settings to 2.4ghz frequency ONLY rather than 2.4/ 5ghz. Before that the Chromecast (2.4ghz) was showing connected to the router but my phone couldn't 'see' it on the network until I changed the setting. The best way to start the troubleshooting is restarting both devices.

So, it needs to be connected to a strong network. After checking the Wi-Fi network for both the mobile device and the Chromecast, make sure you synced both the devices to a common network. It could be the case that your mobile device and the Chromecast device are connected to different Wi-Fi networks. Or, for that matter, one of them is not connected to the Internet at all. Additionally, you can also try restarting your mobile device and the TV connected to the Chromecast Device. While the Chromecast is plugged into the TV, hold down the button on the side of the Chromecast.

You can do this by looking at the small flashing light at the midsection of the device. Once you expand the app, tap Uninstall and restart your device. Another thing you should do is try signing out of your Google account and signing in again. Choose an email account that you want to link to the Chromecast device.

Check for Interference Between the Router and Chromecast

Once connected, devices must connect to the Chromecast by connecting to the home Wi-Fi network first. You can perform a factory reset on your Chromecast using one of the 2 methods listed below. Try using another device to set up the Chromecast device. Turn Wi-Fi off/on from the setup device, then reopen the Google Home app. Connect manually to your Chromecast’s service set identifier .

But, before doing that, check the other steps we listed below. If both the Chromecast and your mobile device are having Wi-Fi connection issues, you could have problems with your Wi-Fi network or router. Troubleshoot when you have no wireless connection before moving on to the next steps.
