While Rodriguez Vega attributes acceptance into the PhD program to hard work and luck, her dedication to contributing her valuable perspective to the research fields stood out to faculty. “I wanted to be a part of this and continue collaborating with these brilliant minds who are not only very technically gifted but also incredibly creative,” she said. He started by asking them to think about the most stressful moment during their military career and to reflect on a personal symbol of resistance that got them through their ordeal. Ward also guided the participants in conversation focused on personal iconography of strength and motivation with the goal of selecting a symbol based on their achievements and motivations. Another one of Mau's publications, “Incomplete Manifesto for Growth,” a 43-point declaration on sustaining a creative life written in 1998, has been translated into 15 languages and has spawned a multitude of creative interpretations that are widely shared on the internet to this day.

Whether you practice music, architecture, dance, theatre, design, visual art or film, creative excellence requires both a mastery of your discipline and the development of your own creative expression. At ASU's Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, excellence and innovation unite and thrive within five schools, each devoted to its own creative discipline. Welcome to the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, the largest comprehensive design and arts school in the nation, located within a dynamic 21st-century research university. This means that Design and Arts Corps learning is scaffolded into multiple modules offered in hybrid online/in-person learning experiences.

Building on the mission of Massive Change, Mau and Williams created Massive Action, a series of seminars with specific research projects as case studies, to inspire and empower 100 million designers who can accelerate positive change through life-centered design. Mau’s partner in work and life, Aiyemobisi “Bisi” Williams, who co-founded MCN with Mau, has also joined the institute as its senior advisor to the dean and director.
